A while ago I might have said, "Oh yes we're finally done!" what I meant was with a climatic arc. Technically you could leave the story there, but it'd be kind of a mean thing to do. If it was a manga volume thing then it'd be a cliffhanger, "Wtf is going to happen next" ending after the 21st chapter.
I have been working on the 22nd, along with a lot of concerns of content that is to come well after that chapter. The over all editing and ironing of the earlier chapters of this experiment has been put on hold and only recently got picked up again. Art was slowed, and the chapter put on hold till decisions were made.
None of which was updated, and constant updates seem to be trendy thing these days... or well, necessary to stay relevant. Haha ^^;
Anyways, the latest chapter has been worked on. I don't like to give away too much so for those readers that have somehow stumbled upon this that enjoy ED, then I'll be happy to say, please look forward to the next chapter and the few to follow.
There's going to be a monster brawl.
The choreography for the fight scene was checked earlier today by another pair of eyes and given a thumbs up, so that's the most promising news I've had yet (in relation to getting the chapter completed and posted).
Its tempting to just have the entire fight scene go on continuously without all the breaks...
To be honest, it's kind of hard to write Reader's portions since I feel that all those portions should've been illustrated or be the dialogue direction if it were a visual novel. I'll try to make Reader interesting till the very end though, so please look forward to that.
It's been a year. Working on a chapter for a year, by working on a ton of things that comes after...
Ah... the lengths done to try and shore up future plot holes... Yeah, that's how it goes with a project like this.
It's nice to have a definitive script when you can manage one.
I'm not sure if I ever explained before, but I'll do so here.
Ernest Demon as a storyline was a project. It was an effort between me and a few close friends that write to see if any of us could stick with a constant writing project. Part of the motivation was to post it online as a statement similar to delivering a deadline. In a way it's a lot like a web comic, just without illustrations. Originally ED was rather ambiguous, vague and weird. It became a thing where ideas were played with, mechanics were tested and stuff was done for fun. After a while it became something that had far more clarity/vision and we could see where if things were fixed here and there and made consistent, then it might come out as a pretty good short story of some kind.
To be honest I kind of wanted to see what kind of reaction the material might garner, and the primary lesson I've learned is that it's pretty hard to sell a story to anyone. Personally I think it's easier to get someone to look at some art or a video, but to get them to read a story (let alone tell you what they thought?), is pretty rough. Marketing man, one of the maxims of successful writing is definitely figuring out how you're going to sell/pitch your thing. Well, lots of frequent and consistent updates would help to.
Having a definitive clear script from beginning to end wasn't really much of an option for something done on the side and often spontaneously while working on different writing projects or material at the same time. That and the life beyond the monitor has definitely been anything beyond a smooth ride. Woo.
That said, with a bit of polish it might come off as a decent bit work, so me (and Suizo) are a bit committed to finishing this project, at least writing wise, to the end.
Well that's it for the update right now. Going to clean up the bones and stuff until it's good enough to post. All the actiony bits are mostly laid out so now it's just trying to keep that horror/mystery feel for the in between parts.
